Folly Trio

Folly Trio is a 22 minute episodic dance showcasing an absurd trio and their interpersonal drama. The characters prepare to present their traveling dance exhibition to their audience but are ill prepared, resulting in a display of farcical slapstick antics. The performers try to constrain themselves to the structured choreography, but they fail to conform as the tension increases and they eventually lose control letting their personalities fully possess the space. The tramp trio move through a self driven variety showcase featuring prop work, burlesque, theatrical puppets, and a rave. It ends in a dramatic, but sobering, resolution with the trio striking the set with a literal show “wrap up” contained in their giant bindle as they slog to their next performance venue. The artist experience is an underlying theme, examining the euphoria inhabiting the performance space and the post-show blues.

TwoSet

TwoSet is a work in progress duet choreographed and performed by Charlotte Aucella and Angelina Laguna with an original sound score by Angelina. The duet has been shown at the Alvin Ailey Studios in Bare Bones, curated by the American Dance.

The work is configured to reference the spaces where we developed the choreography and rehearsed, including a gymnasium, volleyball courts, a beach, childhood living room, and subway car. Each location provided a context and experience we allowed to inform the phrase material. The choreography consists of extracted gestures people in public spaces, reconstructed movement from home videos, and references to architectural structures from each space we rehearsed. TwoSet is a presentation of movement challenging the separation of movement from context while exploring our trained classical technique in opposition to uncodified movements.
